Kate and Jeremy get married!!!!
Tamarack Resort, Idaho, July 10, 2008 - with family and friends surrounding them, our daughter Kate and Jeremy McCune were married.
The wedding week festivities started off on Wednesday, July 9th, when many of the guests arrived in Tamarack.
Early on Wednesday morning, several of the guests braved the famed Tamarack Resort "zip line". The zip line consists of 8 lines which zig zag down the mountain and are varying degrees of difficulty. You get to the first zip line by riding up on the ski lift. I think most everyone would agree that the zip line that ended up in a 105' high platform in an old pine tree was by far the most difficult and the scariest. However, we all made it down the mountain safety and most of us agree that it was an experience of a lifetime.
That evening, Kate and her good friend Vanezsa hosted a taco bar at the chalet they were staying in at Tamarack. The guests included Jeremy's grandma, Jan, as well as Kate's grandma, Velma.
The next day was the wedding day. Kate and Jeremy were married on a platform above the Payette River on property owned by Jeremy's dad, Jeff. As you will see, the background in the photos is so beautiful that it almost looks fake! The bride and groom asked Kate's brother, Josh, to read a W.H. Auden poem before the official ceremony. The wedding ceremony, performed by Hershal, was really beautiful, and everything turned out perfectly.
The day after the wedding a large group of guests were treated to water skiing, wake boarding, tubing and fishing on a pontoon boat as well as a ski boat.
Two days later Mr. and Mrs. McCune went on their dream honeymoon to Alaska for three weeks. They visited Jeremy's family there and fished to their heart's content! Lucky for us, they sent a lot of the fish back to Santa Barbara and we are now enjoying it!
A big "thank you" to Jeff McCune for his hospitality - he supplied the houses and our condo in Tamarack Resort for all of the wedding guests. Jeff's vacation rentals can be seen at www.idahoresortrentals.com.
Congratulations to the newlyweds! We hope you have many happy years together!

Honeymoon in Alaska!
Castaic Lake Lifeguard boat #3
This is the third lifeguard boat we have built for Castaic Lake.
As always, the whole staff at Castaic Lake was very easy to work with!
A big thanks to everyone involved!
Maui Fire Department
This boat will be stationed at the Lahaina Fire Station in Maui. The boat's Name is Ka'alani, which means "rolling heavens" and refers to the winds of the Lahaina area that revolve from the land to the sea and back again.
Many thanks to everyone involved in making this boat a reality. It was a pleasure working with the whole Maui crew.
Engine care, part seven:
If the U-joints in your outdrive or your inboard transmission seals and/or bearings seem to be wearing out frequently, misalignment may be the problem. If either of these are happening to you, have your mechanic check the engine alignment and motor mounts.
Tony Hotchiss had this made for us! It was made by Tony's friend Peter Kinney of Brinnon, Washington. It looks a lot like Jim Short's 26' Radon!
Thank you, Tony!
Tony is also very communicative! Below is a great e-mail we received from him after Father's Day this year.

Here is a photo a friend of mine took last Sunday. It's a long story, but the bottom line is I took my 83 yr. young dad over to Catalina on Saturday to have lunch and get a little paddleboard workout in and then head back the same day. On the way over I recalled that they were having a paddleboard race from the isthmus on Catalina to Abalone Cove in Palos Verdes, [ a race I have done many times] I talked my dad into spending the night on the boat and paddling back as a relay team the next day. We had the best time!!!!!!!!!! What a awesome way to spend Fathers Day, here we are coming into the finish line after 22 miles. Aloha, Tony
P.S. thanks again for the repair work on the boat.
In July, we were invited to the Ventura premiere of Kevin Costner's new movie, Swing Vote.
We went to a pre-premiere party at the Watermark restaurant in downtown Ventura, as well as getting to walk the red carpet going into the movie theater! The movie was great! It is a very timely movie considering we will be voting for our next President in November.
After the premiere, several blocks of downtown Ventura were closed to cars, and Kevin's band, Modern West, played for a huge audience. The music was awesome and Kevin kept the audience entertained with stories about growing up in Ventura between songs. Below are a couple of photos:
John Grant's diving trip!
Leo Carrillo was very good. 15-25' vis with some haze and 57 degree water. I found two caves in 25' to 30' of open water that held 6 bugs, one weighed 3#! I've never taken six bugs during the day freediving before, so I was stoked. On the way in, I ran into a grey halibut dusted up, laying on the inside rock reef. He looked small so I layed my gun down to measure him. He was legal, but as I picked up my gun he was gone.
Introducing Sawyer Radon, our new grand-dogger! He belongs to Josh and Sarah - guess who he is named after?
And if getting a new puppy wasn't enough for one summer -they also bought a house! Here are Josh and Sarah in front of their new house on moving-in day.
Cassie and I walked down State St. (Don took photos) with the Dioji (D.O.G.- get it?) group in Santa Barbara's annual Big Dog Parade in June. It was tons of fun!
Dioji is a dog boarding facility in Goleta and they have taken care of our very own Cassie many times. They do not put the dogs in cages, have a web cam and a bone shaped swimming pool for the dogs to play and exercise in!
Below is one of my all time favorite boat and dog photos!
Jim Short catches a big halibut!
A big "Thank You" to KEVIN and CHRISTINE COSTNER for their hospitality - we stayed at their house in Aspen for five days in March. We had a great time!
There were six of us at the house - Don and I, Josh and Sarah, and Kate and Jeremy. We rode tubes down the snowy hills, drove snowmobiles, snow shoed, skied, and Jeremy did some fishing in their lake. The house is beautiful and comfortable and the scenery is spectacular!
