New 26' Radon, the Pelican II

Bev Morgan is a seasoned Radon boat owner – he still owns his first Radon, which was built by Ron Radon Sr.  for commercial diving in 1972 (photo below). Bev is also founder of Kirby-Morgan Dive Systems, which manufacture dive masks.

Bev’s son Matt loves to surf, and this boat is perfect for that use. With twin Mercury 250 HP Verados, it is fast and quiet.

The electronics package includes the Raymarine E120 12” display, 4 kw Radome, DSM 300 digital sounder module, Sirius weather/radio receiver, satellite TV dome, and autopilot.

It was a pleasure to build this boat for the Morgans. They are wonderful customers, and we know they will enjoy their boat.

An e-mail from Jason and Stacy Schmitt

Hi Don, Linda, Kate and Jeremy,

Just wanted to thank all of you at Radon Boats for doing a great job on my boat.  In January you installed a secondary water pick up, kelp knife, battery charger and a few other things.  I made it down to Channel Islands Harbor and have been using my boat for the past several weeks.  The kelp knife and secondary water pickup is awesome.  It is so nice going through the kelp and not over heating, thank you so much!  The spearfishing has been slow for me but I did shoot one wsb several weeks ago.  I'm making a list of new projects, like a windless for sure, pulling my anchor by hand sucks!  I found dry storage in the harbor (thanks for that Don) so I think I will stick around until I shoot a few more wsb.

I will keep in touch, but thank you guys so much for everything.

Engine care, part six:

Engine care

Water pump maintenance

It is very important to maintain your boat’s water pump according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.

The water pump is important because it keeps the engine at the proper temperature. The sea water pump has a flexible rubber impeller that should be replaced on a regular basis.

If your engine starts running slightly warmer than normal - that could indicate that your impeller needs to be changed.

When you flush your engine after using it in salt water, it is important that you run water through it and do not run the impeller “dry”. If you run the impeller “dry”, it will ruin your impeller.

In addition, a raw water strainer is a very good addition to your engine to keep debris from going through your water pump.

Check your engine owner’s manual for scheduled maintenance.
